A useful resource for tourism operators, attractions, business owners and accommodators is this list posted on the provincial website, How to Protect Yourself:

Coronaviruses are spread mainly from person to person through close contact, for example, in a household, workplace or health care centre.

There is no vaccine available to protect against the 2019 novel coronavirus.

There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses. Take these everyday steps to reduce exposure to the virus and protect your health:
  • wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • sneeze and cough into your sleeve
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • avoid contact with people who are sick
  • stay home if you are sick

If you are travelling to an area known to have cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), be sure to avoid:
  • high-risk areas such as farms, live animal markets and areas where animals may be slaughtered
  • contact with animals (alive or dead), including pigs, chickens, ducks and wild birds
  • surfaces with animal droppings or secretions on them

In addition, here are recommendations for communicating about the virus:
  • Disclose information honestly when questioned by visitors and customers
  • Share the above list with family, friends, your staff and visitors
  • Refer visitors to the Province of Ontario website for updates from the Ministry of Health
  • At this stage there are many unknowns about the virus and as such we recommend that your promotions, advertising and communications DO NOT promote that it is a COVID-19 (Coronavirus) safe region to travel to or that it is safer in BruceGreySimcoe than somewhere else.  Continue promoting all the positive attributes about your attractions, accommodation or activity.
  • RTO7 will keep you posted on recommendations, plans or programs that the Province of Ontario is initiating if needed.
  • At this time RTO7 is continuing all of its plan activities and promotions.  All Experience Development and Partnership Programs are continuing, and our regular social media campaigns are continuing.  The BruceGreySimcoe Winter Campaign is a very robust winter advertising campaign and is currently at the stage that is promoting the March Break.
  • The RTO7 team is made up of tourism professionals at the board and staff level.  The current staff complement has individuals that worked closely with the provincial government during SARS and is using that experience to help inform planning.
  • RTO7 will continue to monitor all communications from the Government of Ontario and will be regularly updating the information above.
