Before completing your application, note that the following may affect the application process, including delays and termination of the funding:

  • It is strongly suggested that applicants contact and speak to RTO7 staff BEFORE submitting an application.
  • Funding may be affected by the current COVID-19 situation (i.e. that the event/festival will run) – applicants need to be aware of that before, during and after completing the application
  • It is strongly recommended that applicants contact their local health unit before submitting application to ensure the event complies with current guidelines

Expenditure of funds in Partner Programs is contingent on adherence to the Province’s “Roadmap to Recovery”.


Festivals are BIG here.  With over 500 identified festivals and events days across BruceGreySimcoe, they help to form the backbone of why it’s so great to come here.  Some events are small and geared towards the locals, while other festivals are huge and help to drive the economic engine of a community by attracting thousands of tourists. 
 
The May 2014 report – RTO7: Regional Strategic Plan for Festivals and Events by Sierra Planning and Management, (available on www.rto7data.ca), identified that many of the festivals and events across BruceGreySimcoe needed to build capacity, create sustainability and develop stronger marketing strategies.  The Festival Implementation Program is designed to help well-established  and regional/emerging festivals (please see reference guide for definitions), to achieve at least one of the following things:
 

  • Increase visitor spending,
  • Help to reduce overcrowding in areas that are experiencing capacity issues,
  • Increase length of stay, and/or
  • Increase return visits to BruceGreySimcoe.

 
If a festival can demonstrate a financial investment of $750 - $1,000 towards achieving at least one of the items listed above, they may be eligible to receive $1,500 - $2,000 from RTO7 towards a social media advertising campaign.  RTO7 matches the festival's investment at a ratio of 1:2 - i.e. for every $1 the festival contributes to one of the items above, RTO7 will contribute $2.  The partner is required to provide receipts to prove their contribution. The partner will also have to attest to not using the same receipts for other RTO7 programs like the Consumer Confidence Videos/Images or OIP.  Partners may apply for one virtual festival per year.

The application fee is waived for 2021/22. The applicant will receive Environics Analytics analysis of the postal code data provided (minimum of 500 per application).  Applications where multiple partners exist can have each partner’s postal code data analyzed or mobility data for a cost of  $600.00 each (municipalities only).  

This data (provided it is provided 30 days in advance) will be useful to you in your marketing targeting and product development.  The markets, segments and activities that RTO7 targets i.e. the geographic audiences and types of tourists we are aiming to attract and types of activities we promote are outlined here. The data you provide through postal codes will be aggregated across all partners in the longer term to form a clearer, more refined picture of the state of tourism within the region to inform your and our future decision making. 


In addition to postal code data, the data that partners may be required to include in their final reporting to assess performance will depend on the project and objectives in question. Data that is considered most useful to RTO7 and/or stakeholders is elaborated on here.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until January 31, 2022 or until the program is fully subscribed.
